It's Memorial Day.

So here is a short video mixtape; maybe it should be called a video EP? Nonetheless, it a collection of awesome videos that have nothing to do with the holiday.

I haven't been much of a fan of Green Day's last few albums, but they did do a hell of a cover of "Rip This Joint" on Fallon.

And last: while this is not a full performance, Jack White does teach the crowd how to act at a rock-n-roll show.

Things May Get Out Of Hand

That is the title of a short documentary, about 13 minutes, on Those Darlins. The video was filmed at SXSW and is a pretty good investment of your time for something that clocks in under 15 minutes.

Check out their tour dates. For the first time in about ten year I thought, "Well, looks like I'm gonna take a trip to Somerset." And where the hell is Morning View, KY?

Saturday, June 12 — Chicago, IL — Ribfest
Friday, June 18 — Cincinnati OH — Northside Tavern
Saturday, June 19 — Fort Wayne IN — The Brass Rail

Next Big Nashville

American Songwriter Spring Mixtape - Free Album

My sweet lady found this and I thought I'd pass it along to you guys. American songwriter has released their spring mixtape which includes 20 tracks from Beach House, The Avett Brothers, The Duke and the King, Yeasayer, Allison Moorer, Drive-By Truckers, Lightspeed Champion, Spoon and more. You can get the album here. Also - if you dont read american songwriter - you should because its a great magazine.

L.C.Deeze Nutz

I love LCD Soundsystem. If you are not familar with the band, their records are made by one man: James Murphy, and are basically electronic music played on mostly real (non-virtual) instruments. Here is the newest video for "Drunk Girls."

Pokey Lafarge

Good time band Pokey Lafarge are swinging by Busters on friday. You can check them out here. Local lexington guys - The swells - will be opening. Tickets are just $8 in advanced.

Arliss Nancy - Free Album

Little known Colorado rockers - Arliss Nancy - have made their album "Truckstop Roses" available for free download. If you like lucero, drive by truckers or the replacements check them out.

Shootin' Some Dice

I love when women do kick-ass covers of Stones' tunes. I think it may be the juxtaposition of a very misogynistic band being covered by a female, but nonetheless, I enjoy it greatly. Here is "Tumbling Dice" sung by Linda Ronstadt.

How-to Cheap instrument strap-lock (a.k.a. "lock picks")

Here's a quick video that shows how to make your own strap locks out of a guitar pick. You can also do the same thing w/ a bottle cap.

Did you know that YYZ....

Is the airport code for Toronto, a large city in the band's home country of Canada, and that the drumbeat in YYZ is morse code for YYZ????

*Brought to you by mind-shattering facts*
(Nice drum solo at the end of this vid as well)

Morgan M. Morgansen's Date with Destiny

One of my favorite young actors, Joseph Gordon Levitt, has a website, hitrecord.org where he gets fans to send in various elements of a project—everything from animation to music to acting to photography—which then are combined to make a cohesive project.

Morgan M. Morgansen is a series which he stars in, put together by contributors worldwide.

Brian Fallon of Gaslight Anthem KEXP Tracks, Free T-shirts, and Videos!

Brian Fallon of The Gaslight Anthem stopped by KEXP radio in NYC to do a solo acoustic set of songs from the new album. You can listen to them all here.

Also - you can pre-order the new album, american slang, here and recieve a free t-shirt that is very Richard Petty and badass!

And finally if you're interested in some behind the scenes documentation on the creation of American Slang - hop over HERE to exclaim.ca. They are doing a 7 part studio diary of the making of American Slang - 4 of the videos are currently available for viewing.

Those Crosstown Rivals

Now here are two men reeking of sex appeal.

September 14th is off limits

Cory's gonna be.... sick.... that day.

Beck's Record Club

For a while now Beck has been ocassionally gathering a cast of likeminded musicians to cover an entire album in one day and then release a song a week via video. Past albums have included the work of The Velvet Underground and Leonard Cohen. The latest was "Kick" by INXS. I have never been a huge INXS fan, but these covers are pretty awesome.

Larry and his flask

You should all check these guys out. Its hillbilly jamboree meets punk rock - pretty good stuff. If you like old crowe/ avett brothers - you'll dig these guys.

Best Video Game Soundtrack EVER

The wife and I have been playing through Alan Wake the last several nights. It's really awesome, really scary, and I'm constantly blown away by the licensed music they've managed to get in the game. The Limited Collector's Edition of the game comes with a disc containing some of these, mostly original score music, but I was able to find the complete listing of all the songs in the game: some are classics, some I'd never heard. (Added a couple comments to a few songs)

Roy Orbison - In Dreams
Barry Adamson - The Beaten Side Of Town
The Black Angels - Young Men Dead (My favorite song in the game, sounds like neo-Doors)
Violet Indiana - Air Kissing
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Up Jumped the Devil
Among the Oak & Ash - Shady Grove
Barry Adamson - The Beaten Side of Town
Poe - Haunted
Anomie Bell - How Can I be Sure
Harry Nilsson - Coconut ("Hey Sonny, put this quarter in that jukebox and play A6" "Goddammit Tor, you always play that same fuckin' shit over and over")
Dead Combo - Electrica Cadente
Charles Brown - Black Night
The Rumble Strips - Back Bone
Old Gods of Asgard - Children of the Elder God
Old Gods of Asgard - The Poet and the Muse (This is a fictional 70's classic rock band in the game, breaking down their lyrics for clues in their hometown of Bright Falls is part of the gameplay/story)
Poets of the Fall - War
David Bowie - Space Oddity

On a side note, this is easily the best game I've played this year, and probably my favorite single player experience of the last 5 years.

The Only Sons

Hope over HERE and check out the only sons. Bad ass band from Murfeesboro TN, and you can download their last album for free.

They also opened when I saw the whigs a few weeks ago, but I missed their show. All the talk was they put on a good show.

Drive By Trucker webisodes

If you like the truckers then get over to their website and check out their webisodes. They have videos for some songs on the new album which explains why/how/when it was written. Very interesting and the new album rocks.

This is not Shakespeare.

This was one of my favorite songs off Titus Andronicus' first album, but until today I had never seen the video. It looks like a rowdy show. The song's is also Titus Andronicus.

Mountain Stage Archives

Here's a cool page where you can stream all previous mountain stage performances. There are lots of good artists - from Lucero to The Derek Trucks Band its definately worth checking out. LINK

Murder was the case that they gave me.

In honor of our new rocking murder ballad, here is the Murder Ballad Mixtape from 1930s-6os. You will surely recognize the Leadbelly tune.

Atlanta's best Indie Electronic Rock Band

These guys have been rocking my socks for the few weeks since I discovered them. Here's a site where you can stream six of their tunes. "Like it or Not" and "Bones" are my personal favorites.

Also, the guitar player on the left reminds me of Nick.

People Will Rap About Anything.

This is bad.

LaLa is shutting down, need a new site to stream music?

www.grooveshark.com Lots of good streaming music, including live albums, and you can listen to a song as many times as you want.

How much musicians make

This is an interesting read about how much money artists make from selling music. It boils down to this, either buy their music from them or cdbaby, or just steal the shit and buy a t-shirt from them at their show. LINK

Minks: Check this out.

Apparently, there is a big modding community for Squier '51, which occasionally sell as low as $70 @ Guitar Center. It may be something to look into.

Wow.

We now have a blog to post stuff that we want each other to check out. Goddamn, we are technologically advanced.
