Black Angels "Prodigal Sun"

Here's a fan-made kaleidoscope video set to my favorite song by one of my favorite new bands. Probably best viewed while under the influence.

Klymatic Transposition of - The Black Angels "Prodigal Sun" from Jeremy Pfeiffer on Vimeo.

Something For Everybody

I have been listening to two albums fairly heavily for the past few days. Then last night, as I sat at work been bored out of my skull, I realized that one of the bands was perfect for Minks - while the other is just what Corey digs. Holy shit!

Josh, I'm sure your like me and will probably like both of the bands.

First, for Corey's listening pleasure: Los Campesinos. Are they British (or at least sound that way)? Check. Do they have bits of electronic music in their sound? Check.

For Minks: Deer Tick. Are there bits of outlaw country in their influence? Hell yes. Do some of their songs sound like redneck party music? You goddamn right.

One Of My Kind

Yesterday, I remembered I had this documentary that was released over a year ago about Conor Oberst and The Mystic Valley Band. When it was released, which was right before the album's release, it could be downloaded as a free podcast. I re-watched it last night and it was just as awesome as the first time. If you want to check it out look for "One Of My Kind - Conor Oberst and The Mystic Valley Band" in the itunes store podcasts. If you can't find it, or if it now cost money, let me know and I can sent it to you. Its runtime is about an hour and it tracks how the band came together while recording a Conor Oberst solo disc. If you haven't given the band a listen, then check out "Roosevelt Room,"(which is posted under the trailer) it's my favorite track.

Vegas Thunder

If you're interested in checking out Ben Nichols old punk band "Vegas Thunder" you can listen to samples of their only album "nobody fucks with vegas thunder" here.

A Helping Hand

I came across this story via savingcountrymusic.com, and it is tale about Willie Nelson bailing the late Dennis Hopper out of jail after taking a bit too much acid. It is worth reading.

Junebug

I was scrolling through Buster's calendar of shows and came across the Cardinal Hill Junebug Festival, which looks like it will be a hell of a show. The headliner is Free Energy, whose video I posted last week, and the other acts' music genres range from electro-pop to folk. It will be fun for all.

Here is a review of Free Energy by the NY Press. It is one of the best I have read in a while.

“Free Energy is one of the best live bands in America. After Friday night’s show at Brooklyn Bowl, I’m ready to call them five of the best people in the world, hands down, and give them any accompanying awards (note to self – check if there is a Rock ‘N’ Roll Noble Prize, award to Free Energy if so), just based on the amount of joy the band brings into the world with its music. Not in a “joy to the world” way, either, but in a “Trans Am going 120 miles an hour while you’re out of your mind on whiskey and weed” way. If there is a heaven, Free Energy will be the house band.”
-NY Press

Check out the Lexington bases band: Englishman, who will be playing the show. They are unsigned but recently did a session at Daytrotter.
